{"id":1053,"date":"2022-08-27T18:04:09","date_gmt":"2022-08-27T23:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kurmudgeon.net\/?p=1053"},"modified":"2022-08-27T18:07:41","modified_gmt":"2022-08-27T23:07:41","slug":"electric-vehicle-mandates-probably-wont-affect-the-grump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kurmudgeon.net\/index.php\/2022\/08\/27\/electric-vehicle-mandates-probably-wont-affect-the-grump\/","title":{"rendered":"Electric Vehicle Mandates (Probably) Won&#8217;t Affect The Grump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1054 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/kurmudgeon.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/image_EV-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kurmudgeon.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/image_EV-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kurmudgeon.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/image_EV-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/kurmudgeon.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/image_EV.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>California has issued a policy to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/08\/27\/1119360031\/california-gas-cars-electric-cars-zero-emission-climate-change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ban sales of new vehicles with gasoline engines by 2035<\/a>.\u00a0 The Grump has mixed feelings about this, but is not automatically opposed.\u00a0 That being said, this will probably not affect The Grump, and not just because he doesn&#8217;t live in California (for good or for bad California sets the standards nationwide and what they do everyone else follows along).\u00a0 My reasons are less rebellious&#8230;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>The Grump is cheap.<\/strong>\u00a0 He values quality and reliable vehicles, but is not willing to keep up with rising new vehicle prices, even without the added current cost of batteries and such.\u00a0 The Grump has owned two brand new vehicles in his lifetime, the last in 1999, and swore years ago he&#8217;d never buy brand new again.\u00a0 Instead, he has been buying quality used vehicles 1-2 years old where the worst of the depreciation has already occurred.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The infrastructure isn&#8217;t there&#8230;
